GRACE

About This Project:

Grace Craig explores the relationship of text and image throughout her practice and researches the effect that text can have over an image. Currently Craig uses digital photography, archival images and text as a form of phototherapy to express and explore her emotions and memory as she copes with the aftermath of identity theft and betrayal. Inspired by Sophie Calle and Jo Spence, she bases the project on real life events, Craig journeys to locations she frequented to as a child and delves into her memory and heartbreak to create a link between past and present; a time of happiness and a time of sadness. Craig uses archival family images to create a link not only between the past and present, but also to the land. She suggests that the land becomes a fragment of our identity as she builds a relationship with the location to help restore her happiness.
